Mudder Nation is a resourceful community. We don’t mean to brag (yes we do), but the last 10 years has gathered some of the most creative, eclectic, and unique individuals and brought them together on the Tough Mudder course.
So when this year ushered in a new obstacle and it became clear that social distancing and staying home would be the norm for…a while, Mudder Nation immediately put their creativity to use.
The following Virtual Tough Mudder was started by Joanne CS Smith in one of our Legionnaire Facebook groups and is a brilliant way of bringing the movement and challenge of an IRL Tough Mudder to anyone and everyone who wants to get involved. You might not earn a headband at the end but that doesn’t mean you won’t get that same great feeling of achievement from this virtual workout and being part of something bigger than yourself.
In these challenging times, please remember if you are leaving your home to exercise then go alone or with one other person from your household and try to avoid other people.
How to Take Part in a Virtual Tough Mudder
We all love a bit of healthy competition, so what better way of getting involved than doing this virtual workout with your friends, colleagues and teammates. In this team building activity (or competition) it can be anything from who had the most imaginative obstacle or who ran their distance the fastest. You pick. Share your obstacle videos with your teammates and keep up that team morale.
Any of the following counts towards your virtual Tough Mudder:
– 5k run
– 10k run
– 8-10 mile run
– Incorporate some form of obstacle in your home (check out Born Barikor’s obstacle course Workout Wednesday for inspiration)
– Complete some form of body weight home workout involving Tough Mudder-esque movements (crawling, push ups, pull ups, squats, etc).
Very Important Bits
– TM shirts not necessary but HIGHLY encouraged
– Award yourself a headband at the end
– Treat yourself with finisher beers, bars, and whatever else you might fancy
– Celebratory poses, spectator cheering, and fancy dress are encouraged
