Mudder Nation, you never let us down. Every year you blow our minds with your ability to pull up your sleeves and design your heart out. Whether it’s a totally bonkers mix up of much-loved on course experiences or a completely knew teamwork-demanding challenge, you impress us every time. And this year is no different.
We simply had to share with you just a few samples of the amazing creativity and to be honest, quite insane ideas that have landed in our inbox so far. So sit back and relax and pray to the Tough Mudder Gods that these not all of these obstacles make their way onto course next year.
The Apocalypse
“Featuring the four horsemen of Tough Mudder…ice, fire, electricity and mud.” When we read this line, we knew it would be a corker. US Mudder Michael Breslow has designed an obstacle that incorporates the key aspects of some of your favourite (and most-feared) obstacles of all time. Best explained in Michael’s own words, “Your journey into the Apocalypse begins when you climb a ladder…of flames!” Of course. Michael really wants to push Mudder Nation to overcome their fears and we salute that.
Wetter’s Better
This Pyramid Scheme update isn’t completely out there, in fact it’s a pretty achievable suggestion for how to update a Tough Mudder course staple to make it more challenging and more fun (it even features a Level Up Lane). But we were absolutely blown away by the effort and work that James Horn and his son Jack went to. Their amazing model brought a smile to our face and we think it will do the same for you. Enjoy.
Fire Breathing DRAG-On
The name just really drew us in on this one (you guys really love fire eh?). As did the description that this, “is not a challenge for the weak and vulnerable.” Pete Oakly’s intense obstacle sees Mudders dragged through mud, grass and water as they hang on for dear life. We liked that the obstacle requires the teamwork of lots of other Mudders to work and we definitely don’t have an obstacle that utilises hanging on in the same way.
Have these epic designs inspired you to pick up a pen (or a loo roll?) you still have plenty of time to enter this year’s Obstacle Design Competition. Simply build/draw/paint your design and then email it to us at [email protected] before the 14th May. We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
