What a night to remember. Europe’s Toughest Mudder went virtual for the first time ever at 8pm on Saturday 22nd August. It saw over 400 Mudders, plus their incredible pit crews, take on 12 hours of endurance with the courage, determination and teamwork that we just can’t get enough of at Tough Mudder.
How Did It Work?
Like a regular Toughest Mudder, Mudders took on 5 mile loops, but this year it was on a course of their own design, starting and ending in their designated ‘pit area’. After each lap, Mudders had to complete an ‘obstacle’ before going back out. Obstacles included hurdles, weighted squats, smashing a watermelon open with your head (don’t ask) among others.
Those with the most full cycles completed (lap + obstacle) in 12 hours were the winners in each category.
How Did It Go Down?
When we roll out something new, especially in the current circumstances it can be hard to know how it will go. But Mudder Nation never lets us down. Virtual Europe’s Toughest Mudder saw those who were used to donning their wet suits and facing their favourite obstacles in the dark embrace a completely different kind of event, while those who wouldn’t have dreamt of tackling IRL Europe’s Toughest stepped up to the plate. You know what they say, a picture paints a 1000 words and boy, there were a lot of pictures.
Crossing the Finish Line
Although at Virtual Europe’s Toughest Mudder there are winners, this is Tough Mudder. Every single person who got up and got out on Saturday night, no matter how many miles or obstacles they completed, got out of their comfort zone, brought their best and earned their headband. And we’ll be honest, the Toughest Mudder swag is pretty damn sexy.
